The development of Supply Chain Management (SCM) has created a good environment for Vendor Managed Inventory (VMI). Compared with the development abroad, VMI is a comparatively new issue in our country. This paper expatiates VMI from the following five parts.Part 1, citing some related depictions of VMI from papers of overseas scholars, and making a summary of the formation process of VMI so that we can have a better understanding of the new development trend.Part 2, expatiating the stimulus for VMI, including the discussion of some related management theories, which back up the execution of VMI.Part 3, forming the structure of VMI from the standpoint of information system, and introducing the operation of the system.Part 4, discussing the implement process of VMI and some points for attention, and some problems that are of great influence on supply chain which are brought about by the implement process.Part 5, discussing the benefits on enterprises and supply channels brought about by the implementation of VMI, and analyzing its prospect in China.
