Cosmetic is not only an industry,but also a kind of culture. Cosmetic has become a necessity of people' daily life,along with the improvement of standard of living and the progress of society continuously. Cosmetic industry in China has developed rapidly since China adopted the reform and open policy. Cosmetic industry has played a very important role in China national economy. Cosmetic industry in China has great development potentialities and a good prospect. The foreign cosmetic enterprises will make some influence and impact on China cosmetic industry since China has entried into WTO. It is vital to make the reasonable strategy of development so that we can exert our strong point and avoid the weak point. In doing so,we must analyze and appraise the status of cosmetic industry in China.The whole paper mainly includes three chapters as follows:Chapter 1:Explains the definition,function,and classification of cosmetic firstly. Then introduces the four development phases of cosmetic briefly according to its main ingredients. Finally,reviews the history of cosmetic industry in China.Chapter 2:Introduces the current status of cosmetic industry in five parts. Firstly,reviews the annual sales of cosmetic industry in recent years. Secondly,introduces the status of cosmetic enterprises in China through the number of the enterprises,the size of the enterprises,the ownership of the enterprises etc. Thirdly,analyzes the structure of products,the consumption per person,the situation of import and export in China cosmetic market. At the same time,analyzes the two main cosmetic markets in detail,according to the structure of competition,the factors influencing the purchase,sales channels,the requirements of product function,the development trend etc. Fourthly,analyzes the difficulties and weaknesses of cosmetic industry in China. Finally,reviews the effects of entrying into WTO on China cosmetic industry,with its advantages and disadvantages. China cosmetic industry is faced with both opportunity and challenge.Chapter 3:According to system,talent,scientific research,product,standardf trademark,market and innovation,the paper makes an initial exploration about the eight aspects' strategy of development. It provides some useful reference for the development of cosmetic industry in China.
