| Along with the Soviet Union collapsed, five Central Asian nations achieved independence in succession. With certain issues, such as important strategic place, plentiful natural resources, regional security, and so on, Central Asian region has attracted worldwide attention. China pays more attention to the relations with these countries. Among them, China adjacents to Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and has common boundary with them. Kazakhstan, being the largest country in the Central Asian region, has the longest border line with China. Stability and development of the neighboring countries could influence directly the northwest of China, so it is important to study the relations between China and Kazakhstan.This article studies systematically the development of China-Kazakhstan relationship and makes projection on their relations. This article is divided into three parts:The first part retrospects briefly on the historical links between China and kazakhstan and discusses the basic principles and policies in developing bilateral relations, after the independence of Kazakhstan. China-Kazakhstan relationship is a brand new bilateral relationship. On the basis of the five principles of peaceful coexistence, the two countries develop the relations of friendship and cooperation actively.The second part discusses the development of politics, military, economy and culture etc, between the two countries after they established diplomatic relations. (1) From the development of politics and military: China-Kazakhstan relationship develops smoothly and harmoniously. Leaders deepen their mutual trust in close exchanges and contacts, this becomes direct impetus of developing their relations forward continuously. Both of the two countries try hard on the regional development and stability. By bilateral talks and regional cooperative organizations, forums, such as "Shanghai Cooperative Organization", "the Conference on International and Confidence building measures in Asia" etc, they enhance their cooperation in allinfields. (2) From the development of economy and culture: the volume of trade between them has been rising in the main. At present, the volume of trade between China and Kazakhstan is in the second position among China with CIS countries. Economic and technological cooperation between China and Kazakhstan develops quickly, especially the cooperation in the petroleum field plays a vanguard role. The two countries' cooperation in the culture, education, etc, also maintains close ties.The third part, also is the most important part, looks ahead the prospect of China-Kazakhstan relationship and analyses both positive and negative factors. (1) The active factor: First, China and Kazakhstan have geoeconomic advantage and certain mutual supplement. Convenient geographical position provides favorable conditions for developing economic contact. Economic structure between them has strong mutual complement. Second, favorable political and economic conditions of the two countries offer guarantee for future development. Impacts of Chinese actual strength and geopolitics have been rising steadily and greatly. After experienced several consecutive years of economic crisis, Kazakhstan's economy has been rising since 1999 and it's domestic political situations remain stable. At last, the leaders of the two countries try hard on developing good-neighborly cooperative relations with each other. Common realization on the importance of developing future relations lays a firm foundation for developing their relations. (2) The negative factor: At the moment, the biggest problem between China and Kazakhstan is that economic trade cooperation between them stagnant, affects their relations from further development. The action caused by the minority splittism of China hi the Kazakhstan and whether deal with the cross-border minority better or not, also could affect China-Kazakhstan relationship.
