Nowadays, the developmental situation and competitiveness of service industry and service trade has been the indicator of a nation's economy, which has become the focus of attention. Viewed from international experience as well as national practice, without a sound service industry, the optimizing of industrial structure, the upgrading of international competitiveness and the steady growth of national economy are just castles in the air.Based on existing achievements, after detailed discussion of the developmental situation and international comparison of service industry, this paper applies substantial empirical analysis to some issues of promoting the contribution of service industry to GDP in China. Several points can be drawn from this paper: firstly, on the one hand, the contribution of service industry to GDP is climbing by and large, which is still unsatisfactory, on the other hand, positive interrelation exists between service trade and GDP, especially, service import contributes more to national economic growth; secondly, the structure of service industry is unreasonable, with the secondary industry is overlapping and oversize; thirdly, monopoly in some service industries distorts the characteristics of service in factor intensity and productivity, the final demand for service is insufficient and the application of new technology is diverse in different service sectors; fourthly, the impact of service industry is higher than its influence, and the former goes up while the latter runs in the opposite direction; finally, the opening degree of service industry has been growing in despite of its small size, whose competitiveness is weak and index-E is fluctuant. Therefore, policy suggestions are provided accordingly.
