There are rather arguments in the field of international competitiveness, and especially few researches in automobile industry and products. Firstly, this article makes a theoretic summary from the point of competitiveness research history and actuality, associated theories, the systems of assessments and the methods of assessments. Besides, the limitation and the deficiency of the current researches are also involved.Before analyzing the international competitiveness of the automobile industry, we must design the assessments on the international competitiveness of industry. The second chapter of the article designs the assessments on international competitiveness of industry anew based on the existing systems on assessments, which involved four aspects and thirty ways. Furthermore, we use the assessment to assess the relative level of the international competitiveness of automobile industry between China, America, Japan, Germany and Brazil. We also compare collective level, scale level, R&D level between them. The outcomes of comparison that only in the camion and low-end commercial vehicles of our country has advantage.In order to analyze the international competitiveness of automobile industry of our country, the fourth chapter analyzes two important factors—FDI and China's entry to the WTO. The article analyses the contribution, developing trend, existing questions of the FDI particularly. Additionally, the article discusses the problems of China's entry to the WTO. We also found out that two factors are important to our country's automobile industry.Finally, based on the outcome of assessments and important factors of automobile industry, the article puts forward some suggestions on improving our country's automobile industry's competitiveness from both macro and micro.
