A Research On The Competitive Environment Of The Chinese Construction Industry And Its Countermeasures After China's Accession Into WTO

The economic globalization is an objective trend of the economic development of the contemporary world and is an incontestable fast. Joining WTO is an important channel and an important strategic step for China in integrating into the globalization process and the main stream of the world economy. For the Chinese construction industry, China's WTO entry is not only an opportunity but also a challenge, In this thesis, based on an extensive analysis of the WTO's basic rules related to the trade in construction services, current status and the surrounding environment of the Chinese construction industry, the competitive environment of the Chinese construction industry after China's WTO entry have been deeply analyzed and assessed. According to the results of this analysis, some suggestions as the countermeasures for the Chinese construction industry to be taken have been presented.This thesis first analyzes and studies the WTO's basic principles and rules related to the trade in construction services. By investigating the current circumstances of the trade in the construction services in China and making statistical analysis, the project characteristics, natures, scopes, ways and market share of the foreign construction companies hi the Chinese market are obtained and analyzed. Then the development trend, competitive capability, competitive environment to be faced of Chinese construction industry, effects on the Chinese construction industry and its market are deeply analyzed. And the changes of the supply, demand and structure of the construction market after China's WTO entry are forecasted and analyzed. Last, based on this analysis; using the trade theory in service and industrial organizational theory, the main countermeasures that, the Chinese construction industry could take after China's WTO accession are presented in a systematical way.In accordance with the assessment of the effects of the WTO entry on China's construction industry, relevant countermeasures are first studied and discussed from the systems point of view, then put forward. The main countermeasures that the Chinese construction industry could take are: (1) For government, opening the domestic construction market to competitors step by step, reforming and improving the administrative system of the industry, improving and perfecting the system of laws and regulations related to the industry, establishing an system where the administrative information of the industry is open, etc. (2) For companies, adjusting the organizational structures of the industry, speeding up technological innovation in the industry, improving the efficiency and quality of companies and engineering management enhancing the Personnel's quality of the whole industry, etc. These main countermeasures put forward here have been deeply discussed hi both theory and practice. How to implement these countermeasures has also been presented.
