On Urban Business-tourism Coupling And The Development Of Recreational Business District

Business and tourism in cities have been taking on a series of new developmental characteristics and trends with the development of economy as well as increasing income and leisure time the citizens enjoy nowadays. After analyzing these new characteristics, trends and their relationship, the author brings up a creative view on how to develop business and tourism jointly and discusses, in detail, about the formation and development of recreational business district (RBD), which is a typical demonstration of business-tourism coupling in cities.The research is conducted under the guidance of authentic proof. Relevant theories on RBD are confirmed and manipulated to expound on RBD's expansion in Jinan. The article is consisted of four parts:The first part discusses about the background behind the development of urban business-tourism coupling. On an analysis of the characteristics of city commerce, the author points out that modern urban business attracts people not only by its shopping convenience but also by many other appeals, especially where business bears on it recreational values, at present. Moreover, business has actually become an indispensable chain and provided intrinsic drive for urban tourism. To support this point of view, the author points out three features of urban tourism: first, tourism has become one of cities' basic functions; second, urban travel is a popular form of travel among people; third, urban tourism holds in store substantial potentials. In this part, the relationship between urban business and tourism is also analyzed to demonstrate their mutual drive and close linkage, since the background and setting for their coupling development is sufficient and mature.The second part provides readers with the definition, connotation and significances of business-tourism coupling after a generalization on instances of business-tourism cooperation. The author first summarizes the researches on RBD, both at home and abroad, such as its definition, function, formation, driving force, product series as well as its relationship with CBD. Then the author provides several strategies for developing city RBD, including making better use of government macro regulation, retaining unique features, enhancing image formation and publicity and strengthening administration of RBD.The fourth part employs the relevant theories of RBD discussed above to analyze the subjective and objective requirements of RBD development in Jinan. The range of RBD is defined in this part. Driving factors including supply, need and supporting system are further expounded on. At last, the author concludes that RBD of Jinan will hopefully be the resort of choice for tourists, which in turn, will turn out to be a virtuous circle for RBD development.This article enlightens us with a systemic understanding about this new research field and opens up a fresh viewpoint on developing business and tourism jointly in China. On the whole, its study on business-tourism coupling and city RBD development has instructive values to city economy planners.
