Sino-American relationship is complicated and many-folded, with the disintegration of the former Soviet Union, the conflicting situation of the 2 military blocs headed by U. S. A and U. S. S. R is non-existent, which enables U. S. A to keep an upper trend in every field, and U. S. A is always trying to keep her leading position. On the other hand, China is constantly developing; rapidly enhancing her comprehensive national power, showing increasing concern over international affairs, and her role in many respects can' t be under-estimated. China hungers for prosperity, development through international communication and mutual benefit, struggle to the front line of modernization, and yearns for the stable relationship with U. S. A. Therefore it's of practical interest for china's stable development to research on American policy to China, especially after the Cold-War period, from Bush, Sr to Clington to Bush, Jr. It's a coincidence that Bush, Sr is on the father-son basis with Bush, Jr. Thus it's interesting to study their diplomatic policy to China. In the course of research, I adopt the subsequent two approaches. 1. Comparative research. I not only study different policies adopted by the three U.S presidents, but also make a comparison among them. Through the comparison, characteristics of the U. S policy to China can be clearly seen. 2. Distinction of diverse levels. In research, beyond international and national interests, I also study the state of mind among the three U. S Presidents. It's beneficial to conduct studies on U. S policies to China macrocosmicly and microcomicly.Based on the above-mentioned 2 methods, I consult relevant references, including: "U.S policy to china and Taiwan Issue " by suge, "Changes of U.S policy to Asia-Pacific " bywangwei, "A New bridge to understanding -Review and Outlook on History of Sino-American Relationship " by Zi-Zhongjun and Tao-Wengzhao, "An Insight into American Decision and Her policy to China " by Xi-Laiwang, "Research on U.S Issue " by Ni-Shixiong and Liu-Wentao, "Selected works of Deng-Xiaoping ", "U.S Research ",'Teople's Daily " , "Global Times " , "China Youth ", etc .Through careful studies, I make sure that U.S policy to China is symbolic of idealism all along-supporting U.S interests and Performing power politics and hegemonism. However, coupled with such factors as strategy, human right, economy and trade and Taiwan Issue, U.S policy is affected by 2 great thoughts-realism typical of emphasizing interests, force, etc, and idealism typical of valuing social systems and philosophy, driving her policy to China to fluctuate between realism and idealism, which manifests itself as mutual application between "contract and deterrent " after Cold-War within the different terms of the 3 U.S presidents. Both "contact" and "deterrent" policy is in favour of U.S interests.Through the above-said, we can detect the nature of U.S policy to China executed by the 3 U.S presidents.A good command of U.S policy to China through comparative research, is still a weak point in the research on Sino-U.S relationship and effective in predicting U.S policy to China and carrying out corresponding diplomatic policy.
