Dong Fang Steam Turbine Works (shorted to DFSTW) is a large-medium scale state-owned enterprise locating in the west, which was established in the middle of 1960s. Over the thirty years of its establishment, DFSTW has never asked the government for added but achieved very good performance with no deficit all the time. It is nationally known for its steady and healthy development among the same industry. These achievements are the result from the cultivation and development of core competitiveness. Since the performance and opening-up, our country has undergone world-shaking transformations. At present, competition between enterprises has moved to the global stage. The complexity and instability of enterprise operation environments have reached a new height. The fierce competition requires enterprises to have the ability of engaging in operation activities more efficiently and solving all sorts of difficulties, compared with their rivalries, to possess in comparable advantages, to set up unique competitive advantages, and basically to reconsider their enterprise and competitivestrategies. Based on this latest theory in 1990s, the paper, as to the DFSTW development, along with its opportunities and challenges, makes a comparatively overall and deep analysis to comment on the core competitiveness of DFSTW. It provides for us the developing road of DFSTW by way of core competitiveness.
