As a new type of modern retailing industry in China, chains business growsvigorously and demonstrates strong vitality.At present, the development of chains business in our country is at the criticalmoment: On one hand, there's great achievement after more than ten year's growth.Our chains business demonstrates strong competitiveness day by day and from this wecan expect a good development of it in the future. On the other hand, with the processthat we open to outside in retailing industry coming, our chains business will facemore keen competition.How to strengthen the survival power and competitiveness of the chains business is anissue that has attracted much attention of academic circle and business circle, and it'salso the research objective of this paper.Nowadays there's few research on the market structure of retailing chain industry.Someone points out that this market is over dispersed, but there's no basic theory tosupport this opinion. With SCP model, we make empirical analysis of our chainsbusiness and find that we're in inferior position as to concentration, scale andperformance compared with foreign retailing giants.This paper includes 6 parts. Parti, stipulate some basic concepts and analyze theadvantages of chain operation from angle of economics. Part 2, introduce situation ofChina's chains business with SCP model and find our chains business has lowperformance and competitiveness. Part 3, get some guidance for our chains businessthrough comparative analysis of chains business development of American andJapanese. Part 5, give some suggestions to promote China's chains business, includingestablishing favorable environment and improving chains business itself. The last part,sum up the main conclusions of the paper and give the question need furtherdiscussion.
