| Design engineering plays a key role in project construction. With the rapid development and national construction, design enterprises face real challenges and arduous tasks. To make a good use of advanced information management tools and gain profits from management is the necessity both for enterprises' existence and development. This paper discussed the layout and applications of Design-institute Management Information System (DMIS) focused on project management and design-work-flow management..First, the paper introduced the target and requirements of information construction in design enterprises, then present the principle of DMIS and the concept of project management as well as its classical technology, the characteristics and development tendency of MIS. Further illustration is also made by the author on the evaluation of MIS performance and profits obtained from the system.The paper also expounded the features and contents of the system, the structural form and basic difference from traditional manufacture, as well as Cooperated-platform of Product Data Management. The author also gives an introduction of China cement industry, general condition of design and management of Tianjin Cement Industry Design & Research Institute (TCDRI).In addition, the author also made explanations on the practical applications of DMIS in TCDRI, involving data structure and philosophy of Cooperated- management of DMIS, the implementation of "project management information system". The author also gave a brief introduction of "Electronic Archive Management Information System" and "Office Automation Management Information System". At the last, the author evaluated the performance and profit of the DMIS by optimizing the human, materials and financial resources and how the Institute to realize its design objectives.In the end of the paper, the author analyzed the obstacles occurred during DMIS execution and shown a prospect on China enterprises informationalization.
