It has been 90 years' history since the research articles issued by Auerbach in 1913 sparked the study of city size distribution. During this period, the theories of city size distribution have become more and more perfect and a lot of new statistical models have been used for the research of city size distribution. Since Mr. Zhou's detailed research of China's city size distribution in 1980, we haven't do more detailed research about it in the past. China has experienced the reformation and openning and the transformation from planned economy to market economy; correspondingly, great changes have taken place for China's city size distribution, especially the regional difference. So it's necessary to do more detailed research about it, especially the new characteristics of regional difference.Three representative indexes namely Law of primate city, Concentration index and Gini index are used. After detailed three indexes analysis of all country and every provinces, five indexes are used for hierachical analysis of 26 povinces divided by 8 categories in term of the characters of city size distribution of every provinces, after that, qualitative and quantitative analysis of mechanism are presented . Some measures for optimizing regional city size structure are also given in this paper. In the light of evolutional trend of China's primate city proper size and Rank-size distribution concentration index, proportionable city hierarchical system rank-size structure in the middle of this century for China are forcasted at the end of this paper.
