Research On Certification For Sustainable Forest Management And Feasibility Of Its Application In China

Forest certification is emerged as a market-based instrument to verify thatforest management meets defined standards. Based on widely collectingthe relevant information and field investigation, the paper syntheticallyanalyzed the certification mechanism including its origin, definitions,objectives, standards, performance procedure, key issues and impact etc,and summarized the present development situation and tendency. Also thepaper made an initial study on the importance and feasibility of itsapplication and the impact on forest management and the forest products'market in China. The paper pointed out that forest certification could serveas an effective tool to improve the forest management level and Chinashould immediately start the relevant study and development to maintain orincrease the abroad green market share of forest products. Finally somepolicy and action recommendations were put forward for the governmentand industry.
