Since the reformation of our country, the foreign trade has been increased speedily. Especially after China attendance to World Trade Organization (in brief WTO), the foreign trade increases more rapidly. The prosperity of foreign trade brings a never chance of before for freight forwarder. At the same time, join the WTO implys that the market of freight will be unloosened much more, the competitors will be manifold fleetly, and the rivalrousness will be more furious. The subsistence and development will face the austere menace and challenge. What is the correct course for the freight forwarder? As a practitioner, I want to give some prompts and suggestions via this thesis.First, the internal and external environment factors for freight forwarder are analyzed, and it was exhaustively expounded again that the freight forwarder has faced the chances and challenge after joining WTO. In the meantime, the inevitability and feasibility of transforms for the freight forwarder is discussed. The conclusion for transformation of freight forwarder is gained.Secondly, according to the theories of Economics of scale, product lifecycle and Michael Porter's five competitive ability, using SWOT matrix, the different model for transformation of freight forwarder is studied from dissimilar aspects. As the result, in order to exist and expand, the freight forwarder should transform into Third Party Logistics (in brief TPL).Finally, with the practical example that ABC company transformed into TPL, using Internal Factor Evaluation Matrix (for short EFE) and External Factor Evaluation Matrix (for short EFE), the internal key factors and external key factors for ABC company are selected. And then, with Analytic Hierarchy Process (for short AHP), the weights of the internal key factors and external key factors are calculated. According to the weights of the key factors, using SWOT matrix, both quantitative analysis and comprehensive evaluation for the internal and external key factors of ABC company are carried out. In the end, the reasonable solution which ABC company transforms into TPL company and the suggestion are given.
