Patriotism, as a historical concept, has different contents in different times. It is thought-provoking to mention the patriotism today in this Pluralistic world. We see that there have been some tendencies and issues among the discussion on patriotism that are worthy of study:patriotism is simply a moral tradition of the Chinese nation in several arguments; while it is equivalent to a narrow nationalism from some assertions; also, from other point of views, patriotism is interpreted as an cultural phenomenon with no ideological connotation; Lenin's discussion of patriotism stemmed from Russia is sometimes misunderstood by non-historical interpretations, which induce or claim some kind of anti-patriotic tendencies or emotions. Some obscure implications, which are publicly popular among the publishing, the media and the internet, have great negative effects on the ideological and political education by causing ideological confusion to a large extent. Then how to correctly interpret patriotism? From the perspective of systems science, nation is a system comprised with territory, citizens and elements of sovereignty while patriotism is the cohesion power responsible for the stability of the system of nation. Patriotism and nation are concomitant, which has the universality of existence. Since nation is restricted by territory and changes with history, patriotism is of relativism. Systems science provides a new perspective of views for patriotism research. This article is to demonstrate a social science proposition-the universality of the existence of patriotism. A proposition is the statement of a judgment. A proposition is usually written in the format of "As long as......then......". "As long as" is followed by question settings while "then" is followed by conclusions. For example:as long as the corresponding angels are equal, then two lines are equal. The complete form of the proposition in this article is that: as long as the country exists, then there is the appropriate patriotism. This proposition can also be expressed as:appropriate patriotism exists for all nations at all times.I use a deductive method to prove the universality of patriotism Chapter 2. I also achieve a scientific definition of patriotism:firstly, I distinguish two definitions of nation. "Patriotism", within the domain of "nation", is comprised with territory, citizens and elements of sovereignty, with clear political boundaries. Secondly, I explore the relationship between the nation and citizens and find that:nation is the public interest of citizens while patriotism is the basic obligation for citizens. Thirdly, I distinguish the relationship between loyalty and patriotism, between loyalty to political parties or government and patriotism. Finally, I define the performance of patriotism. On this basis, I explore the issue of patriotism from the perspective of systems science in this paper. Self-organizing systems all have the orientation of self-adaptive and self-stable process in systems science, from which nation is of self-adaptive stability since it is a self-organizing system, so we believe that patriotism is the mechanism of nation's self-adaptive stabilization system. In Chapter four, I introduce the method of induction to prove the universality of patriotism. I list the patriotism of slavery, feudalization, capitalism and socialism. In this paper, eloquently evidence form the facts provided to demonstrate the proposition that patriotism is of universality. In one's common sense, the universality of patriotism seems to be self-evident things while patriotism exists among countries from the ancient to the modern society. But no one has argued the universality of patriotism in the form of propositions so far, not to mention demonstrating this social scientific proposition systematically.I believe that the universality of patriotism is a social science proposition, and what's more, it's a very important one. The innovation of this paper is proposing the social scientific proposition of the universality of patriotism at the first time, and demonstrating it from perspectives of theory and practice.
