This is a qualitative study of the social adaptation of post-80s rural migrant workers in Shanghai using cases from academic training project in Minhang district. The analysis is based on the materials stem from the in-depth interviews of 12 cases. This study aims at researching the social adaptation mode of post-80s rural migrant workers in Shanghai using the subjective perspective. This article is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is introduction. In this chapter I first introduced the research background, and I defined the core concepts and put forward research framework based on the literature review of research on social adaptation. Finally, I introduced the research method. The second and third chapters are the study of social adaptation of post-80s rural migrant workers from perspective of strong and weak subjectivity. In the two chapters I analyzed the social adaptation from the economical, social, cultural and psychological levels. In the fourth chapterâ… compared the differences of social adaptation modes between post-80s rural migrant workers, and analyzed the reasons. The fifth chapter is the conclusion and discussion. The major findings of the study include:on the economical level, the methods of occupation attainment of post-80s rural migrant workers are increased when their subjectivity in occupation attainment and employment expectation is strong, they can find a new job through increasing their cultural capital, and their employment expectation turns from economical and life type to focus more on the life type. Youth still find jobs through acquaintances and employment agency when their subjectivity in occupation attainment and employment expectation is week. Their employment expectation is mainly of economical type, the life type is not obvious. On the social level, youth have more interaction with secondary group, and their social support is increased when their subjectivity in social interaction is strong. While the interaction and social support is not extended when their subjectivity in it is week. On the cultural level, both of the two groups can understand the Shanghai dialect and adapt to diet. However, they are different in the changes of dress and arrangement of leisure. Youth changes his dress and arrangement of leisure is extended to study type when his subjectivity in economical and social levels of adaptation is strong. Youth almost have no changes about dress and arrangement of leisure when their subjectivity is week. They still spend much of their leisure time on entertainment and social interaction. On the psychological level, their identity changes little, they both believe that they are still rural migrant workers, but sense of belonging in Shanghai of youth enhanced when his subjectivity in economical, social and cultural levels of adaptation is strong, and they tend to stay in Shanghai more and more. On the contrary, sense of belonging of youth is low when his subjectivity in economical, social and cultural levels of adaptation is week, and they tend to leave Shanghai in stead of indeterminacy. The innovative point of this study is the discussion of adaptation mode of post-80s rural migrant workers in subjective perspective. The modes include initiative and passive adaptation modes. Initiative adaptation means that actors are of strong subjectivity in much or all aspects of their adaptation and make progress in these aspects. Passive adaptation means that actors are of week subjectivity in much or all aspects of their adaptation and make little progress in these aspects.
