Rural Migrant Workers Return And Start-up Under The Social Network Theory

In recent years,many rural migrant workers returned to their hometown to start a business.In the background of widespread entrepreneurship and innovation,studying the entrepreneurial activities of rural migrant workers has important implications in providing guidance for promoting entrepreneurship,innovation and economic development.The thesis bases on literature review,use case study in sociology to do research about migrant workers who returned hometown to start a business in X town,M city,Henan province.We use classical push-pull theory and propoes reverse push-pull to study the present situation and causes of the phenomenon.Specifically,we use the concept of social relations to construct a framework of social relation types,then we study social relations' presence and role in entrepreneurial activities.The study has some findings.Firstly,the push factors that affect migrant workers' entrepreneurial activities include difficulties in integrating into urban mainstream life due to “diduan” jobs,high living expenses and few savings of urban life,and failures in entrepreneurial activities in cities.The pull factors include family factors,burden of providing for the aged,and deep emotion ties with motherland.Secondly,we classify social relations affecting migrant workers' entrepreneurial activities to family relations,kinship relations,friendship and contractual relations.The study finds that family relations are the most important kind of social networks.Kinship relations is less important in entrepreneurial activities.The role of friendship is important as well.The role of contractual relations has not been found,but it may become more important in the future.Thirdly,the effects of social networks in migrant workers' entrepreneurial activities are mainly reflected in three aspects,the main way to raise funds,an important channel for obtaining information,and the important guarantee of normal operation and legal rights protection.Finally,for now at least,the role of relations is crucial during the entrepreneurial activities and government platform has no positive effects yet.There are some problems reflected in the phenomenon of migrant workers returning home to start businesses.Firstly,the dual structure between urban and ruralareas is not conducive to population mobility,thus cause some migrant workers returned to hometown at some extent.Secondly,social relation network is dominant in the entrepreneurial activities.In the future,with the transformation of traditional society to modern society,the importance of relations would be less,the rational concept would gradually emerge,and contract concepts and relations would be increasingly important.
