Postcolonial Theory In Chinese Context

Orientalism was published in 1978. It signaled that Postcolonial theory was emerged. Since the 1980s, Postcolonial theory was translated into China. It initiated travelling theory and other things. This article attempts to discuss reasons of these things. The traits of Postcolonial theory will declare the future of the relationship of the culture. We insist on equal relationship and mutual conversation among different culture. We oppose binary opposition in the conversation.The whole thesis includes six parts:The first part:Introduction. A brief survey of the whole thesis is given in this part.The second part:The Backgrounds and generalization of Postcolonial theory. The meaning, the representatives and the traits of Postcolonial theory are given in the generalization.The third part:Orientalism is the classics of Postcolonial theory. Derrida's deconstruction, theory of power and discourse of Foucault and cultural hegemony of Gramsci are the basis of Orientalism. According to binary opposition, Orientalism considers that the West is the center of the world and the East is located on the edge of the world. The thesis also interprets the defect of Orientalism.The fourth part:Some mistakes about Postcolonial theory in China. The Postcolonial theory opposes Western Hegemony, which becomes the object of Chinese since Postcolonial theory's entry into China. Furthermore, Chinese use nationalism to handle the conversation among different culture. This situation has two phenomena, which are the theory of Oriental Renaissance and'China nature'.The fifth part:The multivariate coexistence among different cultures. With the development of globalization, the conversation gradually occurs between the Western culture and the East culture. During this period, some contradictions emerge among them. So how to correctly handle to these problems will be a huge task for Chinese culture now. Postcolonial theory supports the multivariate coexistence among different cultures. This coexistence is a good way to the relationship among different culture.The sixth part:Peroration. A brief summary of the whole thesis is given in this part.
