An Initiative Study On Sustainable Development Of Tourism-leading City

The paper puts forward the concept of Tourism-leading City for the first time based on the concern of city development and travel industry development, in order to summarize those cities which taking tourism as their basic function. In those cities, travel industry is the core industry, which dominates the development of the city. Until now, few scholars pay attention to the study of these cities. The paper gives a summarization of characters on the tourism-leading city.With the development of the city and travel industry, competition among the cities is increasing fierce. Furthermore, industrialization and urbanization influence tourism-leading city very much. Therefore, the sustainable development of the city and travel industry seems particularly important. Under the guidance of sustainable development thoughts, the paper proposes the goals, principles and factors of sustainable development in tourism-leading city.A framework is brought out to confirm the tourism-leading characteristic of the tourism-leading city based on the analysis of designated function of city. All of these founded the starting point of sustainable urban development study. Sustainable urban development depends on harmonious expansion among economy, environment and social systems. The paper proposes three key factors for the sustainable urban development of tourism-leading city: industrial choices, city planning and cultural construction. Actually, the three factors interact with each other to realize the development goal of the economy, the environment and the society, thus the sustainable development of the city is achieved.According to the theoretical research of tourism-leading city, the paper tries to combine theory with practice and chooses Qufu city as a case study. At the end, the paper gives some proposals for the sustainable development of Qufu city.I wish the study could improve the tourism theory, meanwhile encourage more people to pay attention to the sustainable development of tourism-leading city to resolve the existing problems and achieve the purposes of sustainable development.
