A Study On The International Competitiveness Of Hunan Rice Industry

Hunan Province is the most important rice- producing area in the South of China. Rice yield and area under crops of rice are ranked first in China. The rice is main large cereal crops of Hunan. Following the arrival of times of liberalization of trade after the accession into the WTO, the current situation of the international competitiveness of Hunan rice industry is concerning the issue of Hunan agricultural whole competitiveness level and economic benefits of Hunan farmers who cultivate rice.This thesis has introduced international trade theories , such as comparative advantage theory, natural endowment theory , scale income and competitive advantage theory etc. At the same time, the paper has done simple analysis to its historical evolution and the newest development of every theory model. Have analyzed the production , consumption and current situation of domestic and international trade of the rice industry of Hunan, the author has made the analysis of trade potentiality of the Hunan rice industry.Then the author used the index of NTB and CA, which are the most popular method to calculate the competitiveness of farm products, to calculate the competitiveness of Hunan rice industry. The result show Hunan rice industry has certain competitive advantage, but it is not obvious and the key competitiveness has not shaped.Finally, the thesis puts forward a whole set of suggestions as following:1, A new kind of grain security view should be established. 2, we should spare no efforts to promote the quality of the rice. 3, The cost of rice production should be decreased, especially labor cost. 4, It is very important to foster leading enterprises of rice industry . 5> The construction of rice marker system should be quickened.All the measures aimed at enhancing the global competitiveness of Hunan rice industry and the realizing the transition from a big rice producing province to a strong province of great profits of rice industry.
