The article reviews China tea export history of more than 1000 years since Tang Dynasty, discovering the track of our tea export competitive ability. From Tang Dynasty to 1830s' and 1840s', we were the only country that exported tea in world market. During the period from Tang Dynasty to initial stages of Qing Dynasty was the "tea exchange horse" trade phase, we can see the change of competitive ability through the change of trade term, from initial stage of Qing Dynasty to 1830s' China tea was introduced to world and competitive ability have been increasing in this 200 years; after 1830s', India, Sri lanka and other countries learned successfully from China how to make tea and began to compete with China in tea world market, China tea competitive ability decreased step by step since then, till 1945 China tea export went to its lowest lever in history, from 1949 China tea export started to restore and increase his share in world market while facing new challenge ,from 1990s' China tea export increased slowly and even began to decrease.Furthermore the article analyze the reasons causing China tea competitive ability change during each stage, when China was the only tea export country, the competitive ability mainly lie on tea demand of other countries, the more demand, the more exportation, and also Chinese demand of other countries' product. The more demand, the worse trade term, vice versa; when China was not the only tea export country, the competitive ability mainly depends on competitive advantage, If a country has more advantage on price or differentiation of product, it will occupy more shares in world market, even if the country has no comparative advantage on this product. From the above analysis, the author attempts to grant some valuable suggestion, which can increase our tea competitive ability nowadays.
