Competitions between Urban Agglomerations play an important role in current global economy. It is only Urban Agglomeration that has appropriate economic scale and collection to take part in the competitions of cities and regions, thus assuring a new round of property agglomeration. So, planning and study of Urban Agglomerations have recently been actively carried out in eastern China.Chengdu-Deyang-Mianyang (CDM) area is a typical belt shaped city group and is one of the three Urban Agglomerations recently most possibly developed in Sichuan province. To what extent it can be developed in the future largely depends on a good group work, as well as spatial aggregation of the three cities. A strategic study for an overall arrangement of the CDM urban belt, would strongly promote the development of the CDM regional economy, and make an urbanization demonstration for the whole western China as well.In this thesis, future spatial allocation of the CDM area is investigated. Necessity and possibility of the evolution of CDM area to a new form of city configuration —"Urban Belt" are analyzed. A series of relating problems such as CDM urban belt spatial structure, urban system, self-organization mechanism, integration between urban belt and industry zone, and socioeconomic integration of the urban belt are discussed. Therefore a strategic framework of the general socioeconomic development of the CDM area in the future is presented.
