The round-the-city recreation belt is both a result of the development of Chinese cities and urbanization that has been developed to a certain degree and a boost as well as reparation of urbanization. With the start-up of holiday tourism economy in China, people's senses and ideas of tourism changed after the centralized traveling of "Golden Weeks" in recent years. The traveling trend of Chinese people began to switch from sightseeing to leisure seeking and to having leisurely vacations, which also led to a change in their traveling structure, namely the deduction of long-distance tours and the increase of short-distance tours while leisure and health-keeping entertainments in limited areas become a component of people's consuming in tourism. It is also a hot issue in research circles. The round-the-city recreation belt is actually a form of using land to meet the demands of urban residents for tourism. It is un-continuous in distribution with many functions as sightseeing, recreation, taking holidays, entertainments, keeping health and education, etc. The belt abounds in tourism resources and is a kind of ecotourism in real sense, a good way to carry out the notion of sustainable development, which will bring a comprehensive benefit of ecology, society and economy. The consuming features of ecotourism consumers determine that the development and set-up of the round-the-city recreation belt should aim at urban residents. Though explaining the concept of round-the-city recreation belt and a review of the theories related, this thesis discusses the correlative theories at home and abroad while taking the belts in several domestic cities such as Beijing and Shanghai as examples to show the current situation of the research summarizing the types of round-city-recreation belts in China. The inevitability of its formation in our country, the formation of the belt of Changsha and its present condition are also put forward.
