The international competitive strength is the comprehensive strength of an enterprise under the circumstance of internationalization. With the deepening of the reform and opening policies, the international competitive strength of Chinese economy has witnessed sustainable and rapid development. The four leading state-Owned commercial banks are facing great opportunities as well as unprecedented challenges. This thesis, based on the theory of Marxism and the principles of the western economic theories, reviews the historical development and the present situation of the state-owned commercial banks in China, makes a comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the state-owned commercial banks with the international modernized banks, and proposes that, at the time of "survive the fittest" for the bank industry, a thorough reform shall be carried out to improve the system competitive strength, the strategy competitive strength, the talent competitive strength, the strength of risk control, the strength of business competition and the strength of innovation of the state-owned commercial banks, with a view to mould them into the modern internationalized commercial banks.
