Analysis Of Strategy Of Management Of Sino-Us Container Line Transportation

Over the past several years, Sino-us bilateral trade volume has experienced significant improvement. According to the statistics of the Customs, the value of trade mounted to 126.3 billion dollars in 2003, which was 50 times more than that of 25 years ago; and the container volume was 5.9 million TEUs, with an increase of 18% per year. When it comes to the liner companies all over the world, Sino-us line has become one of the main shipping services, for its container volume accounts for 45% of the whole Pacific line.At present, most of the advanced line companies are competing in this market. With the improvement of the world's economy condition, boom of container demand, prominence of 'China factor' in the shipping market, and the establishment of new relationships between the China and the USA, the container volume on Sino-us line will strike a higher level, and small wonder that the competition will be more fierce.COSCO is the first and biggest company engaging in shipping transport in China, and the transport capacity of COSCON is the first one in domestic market while the eighth in the world. Nowadays, how to take the advantage of the favorable circumstances to help compete on Sino-us line has become an increasingly pressing issue for COSCON.This paper starts from the container transportation, gives a brief statement of the history, constitution and status quo of the Sino-us line, analyses the surroundings that have an effect on Sino-us trade, and then, makes forecasting on value of trade and container volume with the method of time series. At the end of the paper, some suggestions are given.
