On Political Participation Of Chinese Intellectuals In New Era

Intellectuals are always the main body of political participation in China. Because of more knowledge, they have more advantages than other stratum, such as high political consciousness, high political passion, good participation abilities and participation deepness. Before the reform, for some reasons, intellectuals suffered lots of setbacks when they took political participation, which brought negative influence to Chinese political development. In new era, especially with the establishment of market economy system, their political and economic status are heightened, their passions and motivations for participating politics are stronger. They take an active part in politics in various ways. They play an important role in the construction of Chinese democracy. But, at the same time, there are some problems existed. Some intellectuals intend to avoid politics, some are crazy for politics, some take political participation just for their own interest, some take unpractical participation. So we should perfect the channels of political participation of intellectuals and create new means. For improving their enthusiasm, we should completely carry out the intellectual policies, fully trust them, and respect their rights of democracy and freedom. We should also pay more attention to democratic parties and other organizations, which make their participation systematization.
