On Political Participation Of The Chinese Intellectuals During Transformation

Political participation is an important part of modem democratic political theory, and it is a significant method to realize specified political right in political relations. It reflects the status and positive role of citizen in political life, and embodies the essence of political relationship. Correctly defined, political participation is the behavior that citizens try to affect political process by certain ways and methods. In modem society, along with democratic spirits' seeds sowed in the mind of Chinese people, political participation has increasingly been a great part of our political life, and has formed a new style and attitude of life. Above all, political participation process, which was regarded as an important route of promoting political development in China, runs through good interaction between political system and political subject.Since the end of 1970s, Chinese society has undergone an intense and overall transformation in the field of economy, politics and culture. At that time, changes occurred from tradition ethics society to legal society, from a tradition society ruled by man to modern democratic society ruled by law, and form orthodox standard culture to plural culture. In the series of changes, what attracts our attention most is the transformations in political field. It is in the transformation period that the political democratic course was sped up, dynamic equilibrium between state and society was achieved, and political civilization in China made unprecedented wonderful achievements. We can arrive at conclusion that the achievements were made in a great extend depending on the political participation of Chinese intellectuals and what they have done in the course of politics development. In all kinds of society groups, Chinese intellectuals, with their special role, status, and distinct character, are bound to play an important role in Chinese political field. And they will be an important political; force in promoting Chinese political development in the period of transformation. They have the characteristics of inherent stipulated nature and abound in knowledge resources, which determined that they have initiative, essentiality, and effectiveness in political participation. However we can't deny and ignore that intellectuals show certain negative effects in political participation. The political system and intellectuals all have the necessity and responsibility to think of something correspondingly.On the basis of reviewing the political complex and values of intellectuals in Chinese tradition society, this thesis mainly analyzed their role, factor and characteristics of intellectuals in their political participation and also put forward some counter manners to deal with abnormal political participation.
