Party politics is always an important topic in the political study of Japan. It not onlybelongs to the capitalistic party system, but also is a typical party institution with Japanesefeature after WWII. The dictatatorship of the Liberal Democratic Party in power rather thanthe multi-party system has lasted until early period of 1990s. Later, influenced byinternational political reorganization and Japanese social changes, the transfomation ofpolitical parties has penertrated 1990s and lasted until today. When the Democratic Party ofJapan has gradually solidified its political position as the largest party not in office, it is nothard to find that Japanese political structure in a general way becomes conservative-oriented.In fact, the so-called conservative-orientation means every Japanese party formulates itspolicies following the way of the Liberal Democratic Party After WWII, the LiberalDemocratic Party, the representative of Conservative forces in Japan, attempted to developmilitary strength by revising peace constitution in order to build Japan into a powerful countryin politics and militariness. However, the goal was not fulfilled by the intervention fromrenovating parties, the Socialist party and the Communist Party, with the system of 1955. Butafter the system was abolished, especially after the 43rd election of the House ofRepresentatives in November 2003, the Democratic Party, which belongs to conservativeforces, gradually consolidated its largest position among the parties not in power. Thisreflected that the new political organization of Japan, that is, the two-conservative-partypolitical structure, has established. Therefore, Japanese politics in such structure attractspeople's attention. As a result, the deep understanding on the movement of the DemocraticParty of Japan and the influence of the Democratic party on Japanese politics, is of politicalsignificance for us to predict the future of Japanese politics and to comprehensively grasp theoverall study on Japanese politics as well. There are three parts in the paper. First part introduces the growing background of theDemoncratic Party of Japan from domestic and international aspect and explains that the fastdevelopment of the Demoncratic Party is an inevitable consequence of the development andchanges of international environment and Japanese society. Part two, the main part of thepaper, discusses that the Demoncratic party is superficially opposite to the Liberal DemocraticParty, but its characteristics and features represent that the Demoncratic Party is a politicalforce after it betroyed traditional renovating forces and intergrated with traditionalconservative forces, and then determine its new demoncratic feature. Part three is a prospectfor the future of the Demoncratic party of Japan based on the result of the general election in2003, and then explain that the development of the Demoncratic party will not postpone orchange Japanese objective to become a powerful country in politics and militariness, butprompt the development of Japan to certain extent.
