As the development of economic globalization, the manufacturing, processing, circulatingand consumption of food has crossed the geographical boundary between countries and regions.Food trade becomes an important part of global trade. As food is closely related to human healthand ecological safety, nearly all countries and regions attach importance to hazards to humanhealth and ecological safety in the food trade. They have established many kinds of technicalregulation and quarantine measures to ensure food safety. European Union has a perfectregulatory system for food safety. The food safety protection level in EU is recognized as thehighest in the world. Consequently, understanding food safety regulation in EU is meaningful notonly to protect consumers' interest, but to enhance export performance.This paper firstly introduces the contents and implementation of EU food safety regulationin detail and identifies several characteristics. Secondly, by comparing food safety regulation ofEU with that of China, this paper identifies deficiencies in Chinese food safety regulation andputs forward specific methods to perfect Chinese regulatory system for food safety.
