| Taiwan issue is an important affair to be resolved during the process of the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. Since the middle of the 1950's, the Communist Party of China (CPC) has proposed to settle the Taiwan issue peacefully through negotiations, and has also paid much effort. However, some important and complex changes have occurred in Taiwan recently. The activities of "Taiwan Independence" have become more and more serious, and it has become the great challenge for the policy made by the CPC for the peaceful settlement of Taiwan issue. In such a condition, it has great political and practical significance to prevent the unstable factors, promote the political negotiation and accomplish the peaceful settlement of the Taiwan issue.Based on the reasonable synthesis and research of the present results in the field of the peaceful settlement of Taiwan issue, guided by the dialectical materialism and historical materialism, and keeping the studying attitudes of emancipating the mind and being practical and realistic, from the perspective of cross-Straits political intercourse, cross-Straits relations from 1949(the foundation of the People' Republic of China) to 2005 are divided into three periods, namely 1949-1988, 1988-2000, 2000-2005. Through the course review and analysis of the successful cross-Straits political intercourse at different periods, this thesis demonstrates the important position of cross-Straits political intercourse in cross-Straits relations and the important role in the peaceful settlement of Taiwan issue, and the experience and reason of the cross-Straits political intercourse in different era are also summarized and disscussed.
