Objectives: In the report of WHO on November 2005, WHO recommended integrating violence prevention programming into ongoing initiatives aimed at sexual and reproductive health. In rural areas of China, the stale belief that men are superior to women was prevalent and the incidence rate of domestic violence (DV) was high. The domestic violence in rural areas was difficult to be found, intervened and followed up. However, the family planning system in rural areas was full developed. Therefore, we considered to conduct DV interventions to the couples through family planning providers in rural areas, and evaluate the effects of the interventions. The specific objectives included: 1. To find out the type, reasons, consequences, knowledge and attitude of DV in Henan rural areas. 2. To explore the feasibility and acceptability that the family planning providers participated in the work against DV in rural areas. 3. To evaluate the effects of the DV interventions conducted by family planning providers in rural areas. Methods: This study included quantitative study and In-Deepth Interview (IDI). The quantitative study used population intervention trial. We selected Defeng County of Henan province as the demonstrated group, and Xinmi County as the control group. The questionnaires were used in baseline and final investigations of the two counties. The DV interventions were provided to the demonstrated county. Every questionnaire had been checked by investigator, quality controller and principal of the field separately. The software EpiDatalO.O was used to found the database, and two special workers had put the data into the computers separately. Data was analyzed by the descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test with SPSS 10.0 statistic software. We had made the interview instrument, and trained the interviewers. We found 20 women who had experienced domestic violence from the baseline investigation, and had the informed consent of the women to record the interview process with the record pen. We transcribed and coded the data, listed the sorting form, and wrote the report. Results: It included three parts: Type, reasons, consequences, knowledge and attitude of DV, Feasibility and acceptability that the family planning providers participated in the work against DV, and Evaluating the effects of DV interventions.
