The Japan is a non-claimant state of the dispute over jurisdiction of the Spratly Islands in the South China Sea . But the South China Sea is the vital sea lanes of communication of Japan , The importance of the South China Sea to Japan as the link between the Indian Ocean and Northeast Asian , around 90% of Japan' s oil imports pass through the South China Sea. Japan believe that the South China Sea conflict might disrupt Japan' s critical oil routes and send shock waves through its stock market, damper producer and consumer sentiment, plunge its economy into a recession . In order to insure Japan' s national and security interests , defense its sea lanes , Japan take many measures to involving in the South China Sea dispute. Japan is using the dispute as an opportunity to play a bigger strategic and political role in the region . China should take effective countermeasures to solve the South China Sea dispute .
