It is difficult to realize the modernization if a country does not go through the gigantic and vigorous identity change course of peasants. Historical experience and objective reality show decidedly that peasants' identity transformation is an incident that has the grandest historic significance in the modernization, at the same time, it is also the most important factor in the developing social structure. As for a large country like China with the largest population, the large agricultural country and the lack of cultivated land, the transformation of peasants' identity has essential realistic significance even more. Since 1980s, with the quickening of the China's reform and opening-up process, urbanization and industrialization have already broken the existed balance in urban and rural areas, shaking and changing the whole social structure. Accompanied with this historical process, the rural areas have gone through the largest peasants' non-agricultural changes in scale since the dawn of human civilization. This change has already become irreversible course in socialist modernization, and it is the key for our country to realize the well-off society in an all-round way and to improve the urbanization level. The suburbs must become the primary place in the city expanding course because of their special geographical positions, thus more and more peasants in the suburbs will take part in the urbanization, so their non-agricultural condition is very representative. Under these backgrounds, I choose the suburbs as the research objects to analyse the suburban peasants' non-agricultural current situation from economy, identity, rights, psychological culture and so on. The non-agricultural course of the suburban peasants is not the simple non-agricultural course of economy, at the same time, it is also a course for the suburban peasants to realize the changes of one's own identity role, rights, treatments, life style and values. Then, how to help them to realize the series of transitions, to achieve the complete transition from peasants to non-peasants, this is a problem that must be solved in modernization. So, studying the suburban peasants' non-agricultural problem has important theoretical and realistic significance. The article contains five parts besides introduction and conclusion. In the introduction, I give a brief and concise explanation on the significance and the present research status of this issue in the academic circle, explain the theoretical foundation of the article, and define the key concepts which are involved. Meanwhile, I interpret the analysis frame, the research train of thought and the methods of this text.
