The Comparative Study Of Citizenship Education In USA, Singapore And Korea

Citizenship education first appeared in the democracy republic counties and the purpose of citizenship education is to foster and cultivate the young people who internalize the civic virtues which contain the love for the country, civism and heightening the consciousness of Civic duties and responsibilities. Citizenship education in each country is influence by a number of factors. The main contextual factors are history, culture tradition, political structure and economic system. It helps to explain how underlying values which define how citizenship education has been, and continues to be, approached in that country have evolved. For example, in USA it emphasize participative and the impact on the municipal government while in Singapore and Korea it emphasize the moral education because those Asian countries are influence by Confucian traditions.In our country, although the history of citizenship education is shorter, we have our ideological education which is as same as the citizenship education in western countries. Now our country is experiencing the time of transition, developing of commodity economy and completing of market economy which needs a health and self-discipline civil society. How to cultivate millions of healthy and self-discipline citizens? That is a question.Comparing with the citizenship education in USA, Singapore and Korea, this thesis aims to give some advices for the ideological education in our country which base on the absorbing and reference of citizenship education in those countries. That may help us to find the suitable answers to solve the problems which make our ideological education become more effective.This thesis has four parts. These are the citizenship education in USA, the citizenship education in Singapore, the citizenship education in Korea and the enlightenment from the experience of those 4 countries.
