The citizenship/civic education today is developing rapidly so that it has gained its greatest progress ever in the world. However, China, dubbed as"nation of etiquette" with 5,000 years of civilization, touches little importance to it, which will no doubt influence China's democratic, politic and economic advancement and progression, and thus impair the modernization of all-round development. If we make no effort to change this status quo of education, it will be unlikely to improve the whole people's qualities and to realize the goal of being a harmonious society. Based on China's status quo of citizenship education, this research investigates a large quantity of first-hand original education data both from China and abroad to comb the causes and effects of problems of China's civic education by means of questionnaire and comparative study, so as to propose some feasible, though tentative, solutions to them.This paper consists of six parts, starting with an introduction of the significance and importance of civic education.Part One interprets the nature of citizenship education. By reviewing its past development, the researcher makes a further discussion of the connotation of civic education.Part Two reviews briefly the education development in the world, mainly in such countries and regions as France, Britain, the United States, Singapore, Japan, South Korea and Australia, etc.Part Three analyses the main civic education patterns in foreign countries. Pattern is a relatively stable means and strategy. In this part, the researcher mainly analyses German compulsory education, American entitlement civic education and Singaporean morality-centered civic education so as to figure out the solutions to the improvement of the Chinese civic education.Part Four analyses the current situation of school civic education in China.
