The Establishment Of European Identity And The Development Of European Integration

European integration is the highest level's integration in the world, and it is also the example and model for other areas of the world. From the founding of the EC to the EU, from the European Coal and Steel Community to the EU Constitution Treaty Draft, the development of the European integration is one of the greatest historic events in the 20^th century. The establishment of the European identity is great not only that it is useful to the European's integration, but also maybe it presents the trend of the human society's development. Because it is important, from the beginning of the European integration to now, more and more scholars pay attention to it .There are a lot of integration schools, this article will apply the new theory—Constructivism to analyze the European integration.There is a theoretical process for the research of the European integration: Functionalism, Neofunctionalism, Intergovermentalism, Multi-level Governance theory and the social constructivism. After the Cold War, the European integration is beyond the boundary between the high politics and the low politics, so the traditional theories of European integration have difficulty in interpreting these phenomenons. If the EU wants to break the flatter of traditional concept, there must be a kind of new European concept, so the social constructivism theory emerges. The Constructivism emphasizes the role of the identity and the shared-knowledge. Meanwhile it pays attention to the role of the social psychology, and it is useful to the deep development of the European integration. This article will apply(take) the identity as the analyzing tool, and emphasize the conception of identity. In this article, both the European identity is the deep impetus of the European integration and the theory analysis to the European identity in the constructivism language are the new ideas.There are multi-layer meanings in the discourse of the European identity : There are not only the nation state's identity, but also the identity of European as a whole; Not only the identity of regime, but also the supranationality level. The identity of this article is main about the Europe's supranationality identity. As another word: European Union identity.
