The Long-term Division Of Korean Peninsula And Its Effect

The Korean Peninsula has been one of the most sensitive region in the world for a long time. Its sensitivity stays firstly in its geography position , the center of north-east Asia, with China, Russia and Japan being its neighbor, and the effect of America. Secondly, the military confrontation between the north and the south over 50 years cause the international concentration on this area. Such big nation in this area as China , Russia, Japan, America and the whole international community always keep an eye on Korean Peninsula. That's the reason why all these countries care about the future situation of this area.The situation of North-east Asia had been alleviated after the Cold War, but the atmosphere of Korean Peninsula was inconsistent with the whole circumstances. This not only made the situation of Korean Peninsula more intense, but also made the whole North-east Asia upset. People hopes the Korean Peninsula could reunite together.There is still big gap between wish and reality. Though the reunion of Korean Peninsula will be reached at last, the process of reunion will be definitely full of changes and the possibility of reverse. After 50 years'division, the two parts of the peninsula has huge differences in social system, ideology, economic system, concepts of value, development of society and economy. It's also this division made the two countries'misunderstanding, distrust and even hostility. Under this kind of atmosphere, the two countries couldn't reunite together. Only from 1990s, the two countries made some material progress. The relationship between these two countries seems ease in the surface, still intense in fact.There are five parts in this article. The 1st part analyzes the inner and outside element which cause the division of the Korean Peninsula over a long period of time. There are such four inner elements, as the different choice of national policy between the two nations, the division made by the conflict between the two nations, and the region crisis caused by the wounded weapons and its technology mastered by NK made the reunion late. The important outside reason is that the negative attitude taken by USA and Japan. The 2nd part expounds the influence to the Korean Peninsula itself caused by the division. The strong distrust between the two nations made them put national resource into military construction , which must lessen the input to other field. The military confrontation not only influence the investment outside of the peninsula, but also influence the economic communication inside the peninsula. The"safety dilemma"between the north and the south and between NK and USA will be intensified with the long-term division. The 3rd part puts forth the influence to USA , Russia , Japan and China. USA's strategic benefit comes from the controlled intense state of the Korean Peninsula, while the division makes Japan get benefit from the long-term division. But to Russia and China, the long period time of division will do harm to their frontier safety and economic development . From this point, these two countries expected the division could end soon. The reunion of the Korean Peninsula will be reached in the future, but there is still a long road to go. That means the division will continue for a long period.
