A Comparative Study On Security Concept Of EU And ASEAN

Security Concept is a comprehensive and rationalized knowledge of the realistic security. After the disintegration of the Two-pole Structure in the Cold War, international security system was sustained by several most powerful nations and national groups. The chance of for any nation to pose challenge to hegemony was getting slim and international security environment was improving. Peace and development become the theme of the era. With the improvement of international security situation, the Security Concept of European Union and Association of Southeast Asian became more independent and started to take on a brand new look.The present thesis is a Contrastive study of Security Concept of European Union and Association of Southeast Asian from the perspective of the development of this Security Concept. In the beginning, the history and the current situation of security environment as well as the development of Security Concept of European Union and Association of Southeast Asian are studied respectively. A comprehensive Contrastive study of the similarity and difference is done in the following chapters. In the concluding part of the thesis, the reasons for the difference are analyzed. We argue that the difference results from the difference in security environment, in the Degree of Integration as well as in the functions and management of national institutions.
