The world structure is undergoing transformation, and traditional and non-traditional security problems coexist. The situation of international security is getting more complicated because of the differences between the strategies and thinking patterns adopted to deal with the international and domestic affairs. Facing the new challenge, we have to analyze and grasp the essence of the nature and features of China's state security in the new century in order to maintain the state security of our motherland. In this thesis, the author discusses how to maintain and strengthen the state security of our country in terms of new security concept and the relationship between the concept and China's state security. In the first part, the author expounds traditional security concept and its limitation. Traditional security concept, though it has played an important role in world peace and China's state security, can not completely meet the needs of world situation as time goes on, especially in aspects of national interest, international relations, the nature of world order and ways to safeguard peace in the world. So traditional security concept is limited and most of countries put more emphases on overall strength focusing on economy, science and technology and become more interdependent as a result of political multi-polarization and economic globalization after Cold War, but the traditional security concept cannot be in accordance with the tendency of the world, hi the second part, the author presents several new security concepts such as concepts of remnant thought of Cold War, common security, cooperative security, and comprehensive security. New security concepts are deepened, and traditional and nontraditional security concepts coexist. China has formed her own new state security concept which is based upon mutual trust, mutual benefit, equality and cooperation, and enriched security concepts. In the third part, the author points out that state security, more than military security which is the whole content of the traditional state security, includes economic security, social security, security of science and technology etc. Then, the author probes China's state security in the above-mentioned fields. In the fourth part, the author elaborates on his own viewpoints about how to maintain China's state security. One strategic measure is to handle the relations with other powers properly and to keep relative strategic balance in the Asian-Pacific region. And it is significant to maintain China's state security by strengthening the economic cooperation hi the area. At the same time, China should improve overall strength, especially the strength hi the fields of economy, science and technology and culture. Lastly, a picked troop is the orientation of our national defense to win regional wars hi hi-tech condition. Meanwhile, it is dispensable for China to develop limited but effective nuclear deterrent in order to face the situation that the control of nuclear weapons is frustrated in the world. The newness of the thesis lies in that it systematically and thoroughly analyzes the factors which affect China's state security including military and political security as well as economic, technological, cultural and social security, that it affirms significant roles traditional security concept played and applicability in some specific areas, that new security concepts succeed to and develop from traditional security concept, and that on the basis of analyses the author puts forward some suggestions on maintaining China's state security.
