On The History Of English Poor Law

This paper traces the history of more than four hundred years of the English Poor Law. As an attempt of grate importance before the birth of modern English social security system, English Poor Law regulated the early social security activities by law. This provided powerful historical inertia and spiritual power for the establishment of the social security polices of English welfare state. Also owe to the Poor Law, common English people accepted the new rule of the government in social security activities fluently. So, it will be a meaningful try to analyze the development of the English Poor Law.There are about fifty-five thousands words in this paper .It is divided into three parts, that is prelude, body and postscript, starting it as follows now:The prelude has three parts: the first part is about the reasons of writing this thesis and the meanings of this topic. The second part deals chiefly with the existing study situation in China and foreign countries. The methods the author used and literature mainly consulted is in the third part.The body is divided into three following parts again :The first part is a macroscopic review of the English Poor Law. It focuses on three angles : early methods of poor relief before the English Poor Law, the position and forms of the English Poor Law and the legislative reasons of it in three different periods. This part put the English Poor Law into the history of English social development in order to discover the subtle relationship between them.Comparatively , the second part will show you a microscopic inspection of the English Poor Law. This part specifically discusses the object of the English Poor Law, the methods the government used and the administrative organizations which executed the poor law. The third part is mainly about the characteristics of the English Poor Law and its historical meanings.Postscript: the entitlement we can learn , summarize the gist ,and the paper is over.
