Charity reflects a spirit of mutual support and responsibility of human society, but also reveals the socio-economic development, the encounters of people’s life and the relationship between people. Social change, lives change, charity is also changing with the changing times. United Kingdom in the late Middle Ages to modern times has experienced the Reformation of Henry VIII, the power of each class and the living conditions of the people has changed a lot, the poverty and displaced persons become the ills of the times. Social development and change has affected people’s charitable attitudes and behavior, in this case, in the field of religion as well as in the field of secular, each class has made more or less efforts on charitable relief. Their charitable attitudes and behavior influence each other, and formed this period of charitable relief.This article is composed of three parts by introduction, body and conclusion. The Introduction introduces the reason of the topic, status of domestic and foreign research, research methods, related concepts defined and the difficulty and innovation of the research.The text is divided into four chapters in total. The first chapter is the general introduction of Socio-economic status from the year of1300to the year of1640, which is the period of the late Middle Ages to the early modern England, including the social status, economic development, and poverty and displaced persons. This is the transformation of the mode of the attitudes and behavior of the period charitable relief background.The second chapter discusses and analysis the religious charitable relief behavior, which is the core subject of the charitable relief of England before the Reformation.The third chapter analysis the non-governmental charitable behavior with a greater length, the non-governmental charitable acts includes the nobility and gentry, guilds and merchants, as well as ordinary people. This chapter uses a large amount of data to analysis on these sectors of charitable relief behavior changes in the focus and the proportion of relief amplitude, so as to arrive at different times attitudes, and this made for charitable relief efforts and contribution.The fourth chapter focuses on introducing the evolution of government relief policies conform to historical claims. The government relief which is after the religious, non-governmental charitable relief is in response to the social needs, it also has the past and the role.At last, the conclusion summarizes the full text contents.
