| The voluntary service develops rapidly in China, the volunteer population grows day by day. The principal part of youth voluntary service is youth university students, so it is an important way to transfer fully the university students' enthusiasm to participate the voluntary service. Therefore, it is worth studying on how to spirit up youth volunteers.The thesis, with its focus on the correlated experiences of domestic and foreign, employs the method of documentation, questionnaire, interview and mathematic statistics to research the motivation of their participation in voluntary service. Based on the analysis on different factors affecting their motives for the service, this thesis sets out to examine why some volunteers participate in and insist on doing their work, while some bring it to a halt, and definitude the motives of youth volunteers. On this foundation, this paper brings forward to the youth volunteers' comprehensive motivation model.The present deficiency that youth volunteers are being motivated to participate in voluntary service is: the correlative laws and regulations are not perfect; the volunteer organizes' system is not suitable; the government measures are deficient; the voluntary service's fund lacks seriously; the voluntary service projects are infrequent; the content is unitary and so on. The motivational demands of youth volunteers are dedication, self-realization, knowledge, interpersonal relationship, adscription. According to the conclusions of this research, the article points out the intrinsic and external motivational measures that must be taken in successfully encouraging and managing youth volunteers. The intrinsic motivational measures include: the group authorized; the psychological contract; the goal setting; work enriching; training. The external motivational measures include: legislate on volunteers; add the channel to finance voluntary service; sets up the volunteer brand; implement the network management; cultivating and developing culture.
