Since the practicing of reforming and opening policy, Chinese economic structure has experienced a huge reform, and products'price system has being transformed from the traditional method in the planned economy to the price strategies in the market economy. And the most argued issue is the price discrimination. In the current economic condition, people often consider the price discrimination as an appearance of the society unfairness and many of them think we should set up many correlative laws to forbid them. But it's not appropriate if we prohibit the price discrimination in all, since many people ignore the positive effects the price discrimination has done to the social welfare. Hence, we start off the research of the price discrimination from the economic view. The thesis is made up of four chapters besides the introduction part and the ending. First of all, the author introduced the price discrimination and starts off from the analysis of the welfare effect, and got the result in each type. Besides, the author gave the examples of second degree and third degree price discrimination to explain his conclusions, that is, in many situations, price discrimination is a second best choice, though it can't be Pareto Best in complete competition, it has the positive effect on improving the social welfare. However, sometimes price discrimination is not good for social welfare. So, the author divided it into different types depended on the different point of views. As a result, the author thought we should dialectical treat the price discrimination, and shouldn't approximately said which type is good or bad to the society, because we couldn't recognize it only standing in the economics fields or in the law fields. For example, one of those methods is pareto-improving, but it violates the law of fairness, like Vertical integration. While we saw the positive effect those methods made, we should realize whether they damage the competitions, whatever the first-lay competitions or the second-lay competitions. Since we should dialectical treat the price discrimination, we should know how laws did in this field. The author firstly studied the laws about price discrimination it in Occident, then compared them with the laws in our China, and lastly, got the suggestion at the laws in China. It is, definitely define the conditions which can aim to price discrimination; define the exceptions of price discrimination; get the clearly definition of the price discrimination and apply the laws reasonably; don't ignore the importance of personal lawsuit about the price discrimination and etc.Now that we get the approximately cognition, the author cited the price discrimination in pricing strategies of the commercial banks and in the telecom companies. Although some methods are not accepted by many people, as taking the cover charge at the small deposit, this method didn't damage the rights and interests of the consumers, and the other way around, it can increase the profits which commercial banks get. Therefore, the analysis of the cases has turned back into the start points of the thesis; we should treat the price discrimination dialectically.Nowadays, with the change of Chinese economy to the market economy, price discrimination, as one of most important ways in pricing strategies, surely would be applied in many company's marketing strategies. So we need to understand the price discrimination, in one hand, hold out the legal price discrimination, in the other hand, forbid the illegal competition methods.
