Since the reestablishment of independence in the two countries of China and India, the half century history has witnessed friendship, mutual support as well as conflict and hostility in the development of bilateral relations. We find both historical and realistic reasons that why the two countries'failure in constructing a good neighborly and friendly cooperative partnership. Historical reason is mainly embedded in Tibet issue and border issue which have troubled the development of normal relationship between the two countries since their independence; the realistic factor is the triangle of India, China and Pakistan, plus the influence of great powers, which disable the cooperation for the two countries. However, external factors cannot be decisive. Realizing the fact, China and India has been working on improving bilateral relations through solving problems in the principle of peaceful negotiation and mutual understanding since the start of new century. India and China are on the way to build a healthily good neighborly and friendly relationship.Under these backgrounds, this paper aims at finding a breakthrough point by reexamining historical development of Sino-India relations and its influence to China's security environment. China and India share commonalities in both history and reality. And theirs neighboring locations in Asia provide geographic edge for friendly cooperation. Therefore, we should adopt a dynamic, synthetic and objective means of research to restore historical truth. This paper is divided into 4 parts:Part 1 reviews the winding road of development from friends and brothers to enemies, then back to normalization to the unprecedented new height in bilateral relations.Part 2 analyses the historical and realistic factors that matter to Sino-India relationship. The key factors are Tibet issue, border issue, the triangle of India, China and Pakistan and the U.S. influence. An objective analysis in their origins and transformations is helpful in finding the breakthrough for the bilateral relations.Part 3 discusses the influence of Sino-Indian relations towards China's security environment. This part focuses on the study of offences and threat by India to China and its detriment to China's security environment. The purpose here is to prove that peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding and cooperation are the exclusive solutions to the improvement of mutual development and maintenance of security environment for two sides, and to further stability and development in Asia.Part 4 operates a brief analysis of the future trend of Sino-India relations. Accompanying the needs of domestic development in China and India as well as the variation of international situation, a friendly and active relationship between two countries will ascend for certain.In conclusion, a good neighborly and friendly relationship can only be realized by joint efforts of China and India. And the friendly and cooperative partnership between China and India serves the key solution for mutual development and prosperity and for peace, stability and development in Asia.
