Since 1990, with the changes in the international situation such as Africa's improving economic conditions and higher political status at the international stage, America has adjusted its policy toward Africa: attaching importance to Africa, a change from direct intervention to indirect intervention, and a combination of foreign aid and economic and financial cooperation. This thesis applies the theory of ethnic groups and foreign policy to explore the role of Afro-Americans in the adjustment in American foreign policy in terms of African affairs.American foreign policy toward Africa is under the influence of Afro-Americans since they take the methods of voting, lobbying, demonstrations etc. to shape the political views of the American government. The conclusion proposed in this thesis is: African Americans play an important role in American foreign policy adjustment with respect to Africa, but their influence is limited due to multiple factors, not least American national interests.
