Nongovernmental statues in rural areas are rules for social intercourses created by villagers. Traditionally, they belong to the category of folk law. At present, they are the normative expression of villagers' self-governance. The study on nongovernmental statues in rural areas were most theoretical research, few of them were supported with field investigation. This article is a result of a field investigation in three villages of Shandong Province, which aims to talk about the form, contents, nature and function of nongovernmental statues in rural areas.This article is consisted of introduction, basic theories of nongovernmental statues, the normative expression of villagers' self-governance, villagers' self-governance in practice, the discrepancy between norms and practice, conclusion. In introduction, the method used in the investigation and some basic information about the villages where the investigation happened are introduced. In the normative expression of villagers' self-governance, the definition and types of nongovernmental statues are discussed. In villagers' self-governance in practice, the legislation and implementation of nongovernmental statues are discussed. In the discrepancy between norms and practice, we talk about the real function of nongovernmental statues in rural areas.
