The Diplomacy Choice Of Turkey In The Post-Cold War Era: The West And The Middle East

The end of cold war is a tremendous event in 20th century which influences the civilization of human being and shocks and changes the international structure and the world order. All countries experienced some periods of not being accustomed to the changes and after that adjusted or made new domestic and foreign policies based on the new international environment. After the cold war, Turkey also changes in diplomacy and independence and its emphasis in foreign affairs turns to the West and the Middle East and then in foreign policies is featured with reason, flexibility, independence, multi-level and broad vision, indicating that the country enjoys the unprecedented autonomy. Through combing and searching the Turkey's policies on the West and the Middle East post cold war, the author thinks Turkey's policies are independent and that at the same time they have the characters of their own and the deadline of interest. As for the current Turkish situations, freedom and democracy are still the longing dream of Turkey and the choice is just to practice the will and pursuit of returning to civilized world and is an action as well, under the will of founding father, creating the beautiful feature and realizing the renovation of the great Turkey. However, the secular appearance not covers the Islamic blood and civilization, and if Turkey loses the custom and its native civilization, it becomes"duckweed in autumn", and betrays its root, only choosing confused pursuit. To do a choice between the west and the east for Turkey is just in the dilemma which is like that"you can't have your cake and eat it". The problem Turkey have to solve in the situation is how to balance the interest dexterously, to the most degree, taking the advantage of region in the special geographical politics to improve its position on the complicated international stage and in regional affairs. So for Turkey, it is a reasonable choice to go on strengthening and deepening the relations with the west while consolidate the relations with the Middle East Islamic countries in a quite long time.
