Social Public Opinion And Innovation Of The Imperial Examination

Based on the reform of the Imperial Examination System in late Qing Dynasty as a research object, and on the basis of excavating fully the historical data of SHENBAO, the paper discussed the relationship between social public opinion and the Imperial Examination System in late Qing Dynasty from the view of multi-level and multi-angle, integratively using related theory and methods of such subjects as History, Journalism, Sociology, Public Opinion and Statistics, etc. The paper put emphasis on interpreting that SHENBAO on behalf of social public opinion revealed the defects of the Imperial Examination System in late Qing Dynasty from a multi-angle of view, on the premise of the constantly expanding space of social public opinion, and proposed different opinions of innovation according to different stages of social development, which brought into full play of supervision and guidance of social public opinion, and greatly promoted the process of reforming the Imperial Examination, nevertheless left lots of regrets.
