American policy toward Britain had some changes and developments at every historic step. By expounding and analyzing the course and characteristic of its development we can realize its essence better——the cause that the two countries formed a tight unity is their common interest. Besides such common interest, the history and the culture are other causes to unite the two countries tightly. We can better predict the future and the possible influence of Anglo-American special relationship.The late nineteenth century to the early twentieth century was a period when the American government gradually laid down the basic principles of her policy toward Britain. Modem times is a very important historical period to American policy toward Britain which gradually changed from rivalry to compromise. Many factors which consist of international system, geopolitics, mental factors, identity of culture and institution, and the rising of new powers as well as the adjustment of national strategy account for this transformation. As a result, Britain launched the hegemony transference to America at the end of the 19th century, which also led significantly to the establishment of the Pax—Americanna in the 20th century.And therefore, such research works are great learning value and practical meaning. The paper is composed of the preface, the main content and the ending. The preface focuses on introducing the works on this topic and research meaning and present study to make preparation for the later analysis:Part one expounds and analyzes the background of American rising, then recalls the evolution of that history. Part two expounds the four characteristics and essence of American policy toward Britain. Part three analyzes the causes of the military, politics, economies, culture and society and England that American policy toward Britain formed.The ending sets forth the influence and revelation of American policy toward Britain.
