ASEAN Diplomacy And Asia-Europe Meeting

Taking the ASEAN influences on the holding and development of Asia Europe Meeting(ASEM) as a case,this thesis proves that weak nations can play an important role in world politics.The article expounds that ASEAN has firstly taken the initiative to promote ASEM and organized the first ASEM summit as one part of its grand strategy to balance big powers,and has secondly driven the ASEM forward steadily by coordinating different interests of participants,and has thirdly maintained the Operating mechanisms of ASEM.ASEAN diplomacy in the ASEM gains the achievement.On the one hand, this has further affirmed that ASEM is valuable;On the other hand,it even has refuted the idea that a weak nation has no diplomacy and proved that a weak nation diplomacy can play an important diplomatic role in the international arena.It is helpful for us to recognize ASEAN diplomacy in ASEM.It can enrich our understanding of diplomacy,and enlighten China how to promote inter-regional cooperation.
